My current project, Audible Waters: Sounding and Surveilling the Indian Ocean, maps the acoustic production of underwater oceanic territory in postcolonial India and the Indian Ocean. It draws together an expansive set of environmental and technopolitical concerns – seafloor mapping, oceanographic expeditions, submarine militarization, marine conservation and industrial fishing – to reveal how underwater territory became a new frontier for geopolitical expansion and resource extraction in the latter half of the twentieth century.
I am currently a PhD candidate at McGill University where my research has been funded by the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship. Prior to this, I was a Research Associate at Sarai, the media research programme at the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, Delhi. I hold an MA and MPhil in English Literature from the University of Delhi.
